As a project of Alexandrinsky Theatre, New Media Laboratory is the sole program in contemporary Russian theatre dedicated to the research and airing of the new media in theatre and related performing arts, from the spheres of sound- and video- to bio-, data-art and programming.
Located in the professionally equipped Media Studio at the New Stage, New Media Laboratory runs as a relevant platform for Russian and international accomplished and emerging artists to accelerate awareness, knowledges and personal skills.
It provides an optimum structure of four main groups of activity: theory, practice, intensive workshop and presentation.
THEORY
Lectures of the leading specialists on theory and history of the new media. It covers subjects of language, philosophy, cultural anthropology and media archeology.
Consists of dedicated blocks of light-, video-, sound-design, programming environments and tools. Original seminars and workshops by the practitioners from theatre and applied arts. Merging into various kinds of theatre activities (aka learning by doing)
WORKSHOPS
Software+hardware for new media - acquisition of advanced knowledges.
Participants in the Laboratory program are invited and encouraged to take part or propose their own Theatre projects. Monthly presentation format enables participants of various disciplines the opportunity to present ideas, sketches, work-in-progress and final works for feedbacks.
